JUNETEENTH TAKEOVER
Downtown Atlanta is a place of history and creativity. In the past few weeks Atlanta area activists and residents have taken to the streets – emptied of the typical crowds of office workers, students, and other visitors by the COVID-19 pandemic – and filled them with movement and action. While some of the recent activity has resulted in boarded-up windows representing destruction and closure, these boards present an opportunity for artistic creation.
Power Haus Creative and featured artists launched a temporary exhibit in Downtown featuring Atlanta’s highly-talented Black art community. Our creative expression of the ideas, issues, and emotions currently being discussed, debated, and protested locally as well as internationally will provide a backdrop for organizers and activists while highlighting spaces significant to Downtown’s history of the struggles for racial justice and equality.
Participating artists: Sean Fahie, Courtney Brooks, C Flux Sing, Zippy, Sachi Rome, Shanequa Gay, Fahamu Pecou, DL Warfield, Black Men Smile, Chandler Stephens, Chilly O, Ellex Swavoni, Charly Palmer, Anthony Truth Gary, Vek Neal, EMEF Griff, Tokie Rome, FRKO, and Melissa Alexander
